Azadi Cineplex
1997
Installation 1: Core and crust. What can a cinematic complex with seven movie theatres be other than situation of cores (theatres) within a curst named urban facade.
Installation 2: if the cores are not to be suspended, they better not be at all!
Curst 1: for the suspension to be seen, a part of it should be shown, ‘like overlapping large images.
Crust 2: Semi-transparent, to be seen and not be seen, to be and not to be, to create a sense of suspension.
Floors 1: Due to site limitations, it should provide the possibility of vertical expansion.
Floors 2: We started with parallel alternating perpendicular sections and from the rectangular site plane to reach the centre of the square. Expansions: Through the opening of the plane by sections and its introversion, much spatial opportunity is achieved between the sliced planes.
Installation 3: movie theatres are placed according to the ramp distance created and their capacity.
Double function 1: Attached sliced planes connected the theatres like ramps (spatial and circulative function)
Double function 2: Against the weight of the theatres, they function as springs and in transferring seismic forces to the foundation, as huge bracings (structural function).
